Highlights

  • The AVMA Journals team faced initial challenges embedding video, meaning users had to download video files, which led to a cumbersome and less engaging user experience.
  • The editorial team transitioned to a new publishing platform, which required a solution for embedding videos into articles.
  • A new manuscript category focused on video tutorials was launched, increasing the demand for a smooth video integration solution.
  • Cadmore Media’s solution enabled direct video embedding, eliminating the need for downloads and enhancing the user experience.
  • Integrating videos into articles gave the website a more professional appearance leading to an increase in submissions.

At Issue

As AVMA has continued to innovate in its publications, the editorial team recognized the growing importance of seamlessly integrating multimedia content, such as videos, directly within its journal articles. Previously, users had to download video files, which disrupted the reading experience and limited user engagement. The challenge was further amplified with the introduction of a new manuscript category focused on video tutorials, which led to an influx of large video file submissions.

To meet these demands and enhance the user experience, the AVMA Journals team sought a partnership that would allow them to go beyond simple video embedding and support a broader range of multimedia enhancements.

Why Cadmore

After careful consideration, the journals’ strategy team expertise in multimedia content integration. Recommended by a PubFactory representative, Cadmore Media stood out for its seamless integration with the AVMA Journals’ existing systems and its potential to support future initiatives, including galleries, podcast hosting, and YouTube integration.

Results

The integration of Cadmore Media’s products has significantly enhanced The Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association® (JAVMA) and the American Journal of Veterinary Research® (AJVR)’s ability to present video content, offering a seamless and professional experience for their readers.

Cadmore Media enabled the AVMA Journals to embed videos directly into articles by implementing their Media Embed solution, allowing users to view videos directly in website articles, as well as offering an array of interactive player features.

The partnership with Cadmore Media has greatly enhanced the user experience and driven a notable increase in submissions. The new manuscript category and improved multimedia capabilities have attracted more authors, highlighting a major step forward in the program's expansion.

The team is also working with Cadmore Media and their manuscript submission platform, ScholarOne, to streamline the submission and review process for large video files.

“Cadmore has allowed us to seamlessly integrate the product on our website. We are working with Cadmore to make the submission process for these large video files easier for our authors too. So, the initial problem of just having the videos readily available on our website without having our readers needing to download them—instead, they can just open the page and automatically can start playing them—has been a game changer in my mind. It makes us look more professional and it's a lot easier for our readers to actually look at the videos and not have to download them.”
